Kath Kennedy was born
in Kent, UK, and emigrated to Australia with her family.
Kath
first took up the violin in school, but in 2000, Kath rediscovered her violin, this
time as a fiddler playing Celtic folk music.
Since then, she has played with local folk groups
including The Wattles and Ryebuck Sheilas, and from time to time
is a guest fiddler with other folk bands.
Kath
presents fiddle workshops at folk events including the Stinky Creek and Fleurieu
Folk Festivals, and also teaches fiddle to private students.
She supports music within the community,
regularly performing with other like-minded musicians at retirement homes,
hospitals and community centres.
Over
the last few years, Kath has been exploring singing, including vocal studies as
a private student and at TAFE. In June 2008
she was placed 2nd in the Golden Voice section at the Strathalbyn
Eisteddfod. She also tinkers with the
mandolin and guitar.
In
addition to being a member of Rose 'n Thorns
and the Adelaide Scottish Fiddle Club ,
Kath enjoys playing fiddle and singing at folk music sessions
with other musicians, -
sharing and exploring a variety of musical styles.
